The CHI St. Alexius Health regional healthcare system was formed in April 2016, when several Catholic Health Initiative healthcare facilities joined together to form the largest healthcare delivery system in central and western North Dakota. The system is comprised of a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, and Williston; and numerous clinics and outpatient services.

Position Description

Reporting to the Divisional Director, Facilities Management and Construction Services, the Director manages and directs the operations of facilities management and safety and security. The Director will act as Safety Officer and direct Emergency Management.   

This position will engage with market and site leadership. The Director will be a collaborative and contributing member of the CHI St. Alexius Health regional facilities team.  

This position is responsible for Program Quality Evaluation (PQE), financial performance, staff recruitment, performance management, and training & development. The Director will develop communications and reporting, and will manage customer satisfaction with the CHI program. The Director is accountable for 268,000 square feet and 5 direct reports.


A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of 3 – 5 years of experience, preferably in a healthcare facilities management capacity, is highly preferred. Facilities management experience in other disciplines, such as energy, pharmaceuticals, or manufacturing, may be considered in lieu of healthcare experience. Multiple site leadership responsibilities preferred. Must demonstrate financial and operational management skills. 

A Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) is preferred. Effective written and verbal communication skills are required. The ideal applicant will be a leader, team builder, and collaborative team member, bringing a demonstrated knowledge of facilities operations and management.
